Notes:

Nacho Pintado is perhaps the most well-known coffee farmer in Puerto Rico. His coffee lineage traces back 5 generations, and many of the field team today fondly remember working under his grandfather. He’s made a name for himself, locally and internationally–but you’d hardly know it from talking to him. You’d quickly find out from anyone else in La Cordillera. Today, making the rounds in the fields, anticipating the unforecasted afternoon rain, and the next good picking day, come as natural as opening his eyes in the morning. While he still actively manages the day-to-day of his own farm, he’s a central figure in the community, whom over 100 local families rely on. So, when we came to Nacho, it shouldn’t have been such a surprise to witness his receptiveness to our program at Forgotten Forest– our mission, but also our uncompromising environmental, social, and quality standards. Under Nacho’s leadership, a group of small-scale farmers was assembled, to bring about what is now known as our Rio Prieto lot. With careful selection of the most committed farmers, who in turn, most carefully select the most perfect coffee cherries, we are proud to showcase this lot in collaboration with Nacho, and this inspired and inspiring group. Through their dedicated hands, we believe the magic of this famed microclimate was justly expressed. We see this first lot as a launchpad to discover what more is possible with this group. The tradition of La Cordillera is held through people like Nacho, and an unforgettable future is cultivated through partnerships like this one.
